Wisbech Swimming Club members impress at Cambridgeshire County Championships

The Wisbech Swimming Club team impressed at the Cambridgeshire County Championships.

Seventeen members traveled to Whittlesey for the event last weekend, with the 800m freestyle kicking off.

Jamie Wilson broke 37 seconds off his previous personal best to win a gold medal.

He also won gold medals in the 400m freestyle, 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley. He won silver medals in the 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly, and bronze medals in the 200m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 100m backstroke.

Teammate Joshua Jones added to the medal tally with silver medals in the 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, 100m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke and a bronze medal in the 100m individual medley.

Millie Harris won medals for the girls winning silver medals in the 200m butterfly and 100m butterfly and bronze medals in the 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 100 individual medley, 50m butterfly and 200m medley free.

Ruby Baxter also contributed to the team’s efforts by winning silver medals in the 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m individual medley and 50m backstroke as well as a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly.

Other medals for the team went to Esmai Smith with a bronze in the 200m backstroke and Madison Hicks with a gold in the 200m freestyle and a bronze in the 50m backstroke.

Other swimmers who qualified for the event were Alex Wilson, Zoe Wilson, Adam Gendy, Jess Rayner, Oliver Smithee, Aiste Virzintaite, Ebony Smith, Esa-Rose Condon, Thomas Baxter, Katrina Dale and Connor Loughlin.

Next up is the Junior Fenland league first round on March 12.
