Three venues in three states will host the world’s largest swimming lesson in June

CINCINNATI (WXIX) — The 2022 World’s Biggest Swimming Lesson is right around the corner.

The annual event is held at hundreds of water parks around the world.

This free global event has taught swimming skills to hundreds of thousands of children and adults.

Organizers have repeatedly said it set the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson.

Marley Wallace, deputy brand manager at Coney Island, said she participates every year because she puts swimming safety first.

“Having those swimming skills really helps in situations like Coney Island or bigger pools because you get the confidence to swim in the deep,” Wallace said. “And you don’t lose stamina or panic when the ground comes loose under you.”

Wallace said Coney Island has over 3 million gallons of water in its pool, so it’s expensive.

She says sometimes kids who don’t have the best swimming skills will go into deeper water and freak out a bit. The children then need a rescuer to come and save them.

In the United States, the CDC concludes that more children between the ages of one and four die from drowning than any other cause of death apart from birth defects.

Wallace said the event teaches attendees how to swim with confidence and builds on all current knowledge.

“They start with the basics, just on how to stay above water, and then they move into more advanced skills to teach you how to paddle and navigate the deeper levels of water,” explained Wallace.

You can catch the world’s biggest swimming lesson at three locations in all three states:

  • Sunlite Water Adventure at Coney Island
  • Soak City to King’s Island
  • Silverlake “The Family Place”

The biggest swimming lesson in the world will take place on June 23, and both children and adults can participate.

Although the event itself is free, you may need to purchase a ticket to enter some of the water parks. You can find all contact and ticketing information here.
