The last races of the season for Wicklow Swimming Club will take place this Sunday

Wicklow Swimming Club’s busy season comes to an end this Sunday with the last races of the year.

n just past Sunday, 60 seniors descended on Wicklow Bay for the Borgman Earls Cup, won by Hazel Behan, with Deirdre McGrath second and Colm McAdam third.

The Blackcastle races were held on Saturday August 20. Four youngsters raced the Blackcastle course for the first time and competed for the Drennan Cup. Amy Noble finished first, with Jill Connolly second, Sienna Brennan third and Lianna Bell fourth.

51 seniors raced for the Cullen and PV Reilly Cups. The female winner was Claire Morton, while Kat Bennett finished second and Sarah Morton finished third.

The men’s winner was Joe Healy. Colm Corrigan was second and Andy O’Brien third.

On Wednesday August 17, 13 youngsters competed for the Across the Harbor Cup sponsored by the Kristiansen family.

Moya Kelly won the race, with Stephen Bell in second and Anya McKenna in third.

72 Seniors raced for the Across the Harbor Cup sponsored by REA Forkin, with Hazel Bentley being the winner.

Ciaran McKenna was second and Charlie Brennan third.

The final race weekend takes place this Sunday, starting with the junior sprints at 10:15 a.m.

The Junior Challenge Fry Cup race starts at 10.30am, followed by the Intermediate Captains Handicap Sealed Cup from 11am. The youth race for the O’Donovan Cup takes place at 11:30 a.m. and the senior McAulay Shield Lighthouse race starts at 12 p.m.
