Sunderland sisters on the podium at regional swimming galas – Sunderland Magazine

Three sisters from a primary and secondary school in Sunderland showed their winning talent at two local swimming competitions recently in Tynemouth, North Tyneside.

Sisters Marley Bowe, Grade 8 student at St Anthony’s Girls’ Catholic AcademyMacey Bowe and Molly Bowe, who are in Year 5 and Year 3 respectively at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, both part of the Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust (BCCET), won a staggering 17 medals between them.

Marley won gold in the 400m individual medley and a bronze medal for her 800m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 100m butterfly. Macey won silver in the 200m freestyle and 50m backstroke. She also won five bronze medals. Molly won two silver medals in the 100m individual medley and 50m breaststroke, one bronze, two medals for 4and place and a final medal for 5and position for the 50m freestyle. Marley also achieved Northeast Regional qualifying times and secured a spot in the Northeast Regional Swimming Championships.

Brendan Tapping, Managing Director of BCCET, said: “Each of the girls has done wonders and it’s amazing to see them achieve what they have.

“In all our schools, from kindergarten to sixth grade, physical education and sports are an essential part of our program which we continue to develop and enrich so that our students have many opportunities to participate in a wide range of sports. .

“From football, rugby and cricket to swimming, archery and cycling, encouraging participation in sport is something that we as the Trust actively support.

“We instill a love of sport in all of our children and emphasize the importance of physical activity and the benefits of playing sport.

“It’s great to see the passion for sport outside of school and the huge role it plays in the lives of young people. Congratulations to Marley, Macey and Molly, it was a pleasure to share their stories of school wins and show off their medal haul.

Marley and Macey took part in a gala organized by the Tynemouth Swimming Club which took place over three days. Molly attended the Newcastle Shrimp Gala, a one-day event which also took place at Tynemouth Pool.

Marley and Macey also recently competed at the City of Sunderland Amateur Swimming Club, their local club, for the National Swimming Qualifiers, clocking promising times in every race.
