Opening of registrations for swimming lessons at the public pools of Dutton and Rodney

After two years of closure and major reconstruction, the Dutton Community Pool will reopen on June 27.

Much-needed repairs to the pool were originally scheduled for spring 2020, but have been postponed to 2021.

Repairs included new circulation lines, a new pool deck and maintenance of the filtration system.

The repairs were funded, at least in part, by one of several grants to municipalities in Elgin County.

Regarding the reopening of the pool, a representative from the Municipality of Dutton Dunwich said: “We are very pleased this year to have our refurbished pool open to our customers.

This year, the swimming lessons will take place in four sessions, each session lasting two weeks and containing 10 lessons from Monday to Friday.

Each session also has four time slots (8:30am to 9:15am, 9:30am to 10:15am, 10:30am to 11:15am, and 11:30am to 12:15pm), each with assigned skill levels.

Session 1 will take place July 4-15, Session 2 July 18-29, Session 3 August 1-12, and Session 4 August 14-26.

The cost for each two week session is $62 per person and $115 per person for a 2 week private session with 30 minute lessons. Registration is at the Dutton Community Center located at 1 Scotland Street, Dutton on Wednesday 15th June from 6pm to 9pm 9pm

It also took place on May 28 and June 7.

The municipality indicates that it reserves the right to cancel any program or course due to a low number of registrations. Also, the swimming lessons information page refund policy, “In case of emergency, illness, compassion, or other reasons, with documentation, a $7.50 fee is required for the refund. There is also a $2.50 fee for each day the child took swimming lessons. This charge is for administration and teaching time. A full refund is not possible. Refund checks are only issued from the municipal office and there is a 30 day processing time.

The Dutton Community Pool will also be open for freestyle and lane swims from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

A full pool schedule from July 4th until the end of the season is available on the Municipality of West Elgin website under the “Pool” section.

The Dutton Community Pool crew consists of pool supervisors Finn Van Brenk and Estee Foder, and lifeguards Dane Van Brenk, Isabella Vowel, Kaysee Kalita and Jak Beatie.

The West Elgin Community Pool in Rodney will also open for the season in late June with open swims (4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.), family swims (6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) and Aqua Fit, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., June 27-30.

Free swim admission is $3 per person or $7 per family; Aqua Fit costs $5 for one class or $45 for 10 classes. A single season pass is $95 and a family season pass is $180.

Registration for swimming lessons for the West Elgin Community Pool can be done either online on the Municipality of West Elgin website under the “Pool” section or by calling 519-785-0560 ext 200. registration closes at 4 p.m. on June 9.

“Late registrations will open on June 15 and will be accepted on a continuous basis depending on the number of students registered per session. Staff will contact all registrants with confirmation of the date and time of the sessions the week of June 13-17, 2022,” according to the swimming pool section of the Municipality’s website. Swimming lessons are $65 for a regular two-week session and $100 for a private two-week session.

The annual Canada Day Free Swim is also scheduled for July 1 at the West Elgin Community Pool in Rodney.
