Nevada Prep Swim Championships: Galena Girls Take Second Place

At the 5A State Swim Championships on Saturday in Las Vegas, Galena’s daughters took second place, Reno third; while the Reno Boys finished third in the team standings and Carson finished fourth.

In 3A, the Truckee Boys won the tag team title, Damonte Ranch finished second. On the girls’ side, Truckee was second, Coral third, North Tahoe fourth and Damonte fifth.

In individual events, McQueen’s sophomore Izzy Porter won the girls’ 50 freestyle (24.14) and junior Galena Darian Koler was second (24.43).

Douglas Junior Allen Baker won the boys’ dive (405.20 points).

Reno senior Ian Bellflower won the boys’ 100 butterfly (40.91). Galena senior Emma Karam won the girls’ 100 (54.81).

Reno senior Ian Bellflower will swim for UNLV in the fall.

In the 3A, Zach Power of Sage Ridge won the 200 freestyle (1:43.07); Damonte Ranch junior Maddy Jaggers won the 200 IM (2:12.61); Damonte Ranch senior Genoa Nixon won the 200 IM (1:53.89); North Tahoe senior Syd Whisler won the girls 50 freestyle (24.72) and 100 freestyle (54.81); (24.72) and Damonte Ranch junior Aedan Spaulding won the boys 50 freestyle (23.12) and 100 freestyle (51.10).

Momoka Utusmi, a sophomore at Coral Academy, won the girls’ 100 butterfly (59.61); Senior Truckee Ryan Williams won the boys 100 butterfly (49.08) and 100 backstroke (49.60); Coral senior Joseph Sirhan won the 500 freestyle (4:45.66);

Truckee senior Brooke Saathoff won the girls’ 100m (1:01.58); Sage Ridges Alex Power won the boys 100 breaststroke (1:00.35).

Galena senior Emma Karam won the girls' 100 (54.81) at the state swimming and diving championships Saturday in Las Vegas.
