Andover Swimming and Water Polo Club won numerous medals at the Hampshire Development Meet, including an incredible performance from Matvii Goncharenko, who recently joined the team.
The Hampshire Development Meet was held in Winchester and saw teams of swimmers from across the county compete against each other.
Swimmers ages 10-14 were in action and Andover took 40 swimmers to the event. The first weekend saw PBs for the majority of swimmers, many of whom hit the pool for the first time.
The Hampshire Development Meeting is a fantastic opportunity for young swimmers to gain experience in a competitive environment and put what they have learned into practice.
The club won the silver medal in the 11-11 mixed relay event which saw Jess Cumpstey, Summer Marvin, Evie Campbell and Leo Walker Lloyd beat the majority of the biggest teams also present.
Leo Walker-Lloyd also competed in the 200m breaststroke and won a gold medal beating his competitors by 15 seconds.
Summer Marvin and Isabella Whatley were in action competing in the 200m backstroke and 200m breaststroke respectively and both won gold medals.
Matvii came away with five medals and new club records as well, a truly impressive performance.
Head Coach Scott Buchan said it was an action packed two weekend with incredible results for the team and individuals.
“The swimmers have improved tremendously and there are some areas we can focus on in training sessions to enable us to perform even better in future events.
“The team recently received a Persimmon Homes Community Grant which enabled us to purchase new swimming caps and a kit for all swimmers. The club is looking for new swimmers to come and join the team, if your child is interested in joining, please contact us on [email protected]
