Medals for Hatfield Swimming Club at the British Summer Championships

Hatfield Swimming Club had many of their pink army at the British Summer Championships – and they did not disappoint.

Held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, the club has managed to place three female swimmers in three women’s 50m breaststroke finals.

Charlotte Williams and Caitlin Hartley both finished fifth in personal bests in their age groups, with the former clocking 33.45 seconds as a 16-year-old with Hartley’s time of 33.37 as an 18-year-old.

However, the star was Ashley Ransome who won gold with another PB, 31.99, in the 19+ final.

Hartley managed to step onto the podium, however, with a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke.

The club’s youngest swimmers arrived in the 13/14 age group, Erin Currie in the 50m freestyle and George Prince in the 400m individual medley and 200m breaststroke.

They swam alongside Daniel Belsey who clocked a personal best 4:24.19 in the 400m freestyle which was good enough for 16th place.

Oliver Baskerville made the 100m breaststroke final with a PB of 1:12.17.

Hatfield head coach Janko Gojkovic said: “Our motto is ‘per ardua ad alta’ – through difficulties great heights are achieved. It has never been truer.

“We are incredibly proud of the commitment and perseverance these youngsters continue to show and are delighted with the great results this week.”

The club also have representation in the English National Championships and Daniel Williams and Romanos Hiotis-Sklavenitis who will compete in the 3km race at the British Open Water National Championships this month.
