Haslemere Swimming Club calls for race blocks

The Haslemere Swimming Club has launched a fundraising campaign to help offset the financial effects of the pandemic.

The successful club has been part of the community for over 50 years.

Coach Charlotte Capelin said: “We are based at Haslemere Leisure Center and are currently working together to raise over £15,000 for new racing blocks.

“Before the pandemic, we were in an exciting position to purchase the new equipment.

“But following the financial record of the past two years to keep our club going, we are now in the unfortunate position of having to raise funds.

“We are asking for help in the form of donations from members of our own club and the local community.

“Our Crowdfunder campaign went live on June 24 and we hope the Haslemere community will support us in our ambition.

“We have been fortunate to receive many great rewards from local businesses and individuals, which will be offered in exchange for donations to our campaign.

“As a club, we continue to exceed targets and expectations with five swimmers taking part in national selection-based events this summer and swimmers selected for Swim England Talent Pathway programs.

“In addition to the widely recognized great achievements, we also have four core/development teams and a pre-competitive team, which includes over 70 enthusiastic and ambitious young swimmers under the age of 12 – something we consider an achievement and a acknowledgement. of the commitment and talent of our wonderful team of coaches and teachers.

“With our talent in the top squads and enthusiastic youth moving forward, it is essential that our kit reflects our training practices and club standards – which it unfortunately does not currently do.

“Our blocks are old and rusty – we have to make sure they are wiped down every time.

“We are asking for help in updating our blocks to ensure that our young and older athletes can reach their true potential in all aspects of competitive swimming and so as a club we can offer them the best experience and training possible.

“The new diving boards will be invaluable to our young swimmers. They will have the opportunity to practice on competitive blocks with back plates allowing them to become more confident in their own competitive ability.

“New blocks will help swimmers, allowing them to focus on improving their dive technique and subsequently their race times.

“Our competitive swimmers train to race, but galas can be a daunting experience for young competitors. We want the experience to be as rewarding as possible and trust is key. Training on suitable equipment will give all our athletes a real psychological and practical boost.

“We hope the community will support us in our campaign.”
