Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Adlington will open a new swimming pool in Coatbridge this weekend.
The new facility on Coatbank Street will cater to families with children aged 0-11 and will open on September 10, offering experienced coaches, online progress tracking, fun lessons and modern facilities.
From Saturday there will be free introductory lessons, with the official lessons starting on Monday.
The place, named Swim! Coatbridge, was made possible by Olympian-run company Sporting House and Adlington, co-founder, will be there to open the centre.
She won two gold medals at the 2008 Olympics, taking first place in the 400m and 800m freestyle, as well as two bronze medals in the same disciplines in London four years later.
Adlington said: “As schools and leisure facilities closed and the pandemic left children with fewer spaces to be active, we had to take action and give children the chance to move, socialize with others and, hopefully discover a new hobby.
“Swimming is also an essential life skill and we are committed to breaking down barriers, whether a lack of facilities, teachers or availability of lessons, to ensure that swimming is accessible to everyone. all the children.
“With the opening of the new center in Coatbridge, children will not only learn to swim, but will acquire a whole host of transferable skills that will certainly be useful to them as they grow. It was a joy to see a new swimming facility take shape in my hometown, and I hope it will encourage local children to learn to love the water as much as I did.
The Coatbridge center offers FREE learn-to-swim sessions once the center is open. To register your interest and book your child’s free session Click here
