Sadie Hunter won a stunning bronze in the 200m butterfly as Deepings Swimming Club came away from the East Midland Regional Championships last weekend with four runners-up and plenty of personal bests.
Sadie was joined at Ponds Forge International Pool, Sheffield, by Holly Leggott, Millie Herrick and Jacob Briers, with the team competing in 12 events between them against top swimmers from clubs in Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and of Derbyshire.
Her standout performance came on day one as she qualified for the 14-year-old 200m butterfly final as the third-fastest qualifier, setting a new long course personal best.
In the final, Sadie got off to a blistering start and held her pace midway through the race to touch down in third place.
His time of 2:36.86 was almost two seconds faster than the heats and set a new Deepings club record.
Sadie also made the 100m butterfly final where she finished seventh with a new best time of 1:11.50.
She also had an excellent swim in the 100m backstroke, swimming another long course personal best of 1:16.03 to finish 12th overall.
Jacob Briers recovered from illness earlier in the week to compete in five events in the 14-year-old age group, setting four personal bests and reaching two finals.
His best result came in the 200m breaststroke final, where he finished ninth, while in the 200m butterfly final he finished 10th with a new long course personal best of 2:46.91.
Jacob finished 11th in the 100m breaststroke, just one place from the final, and 16th in the 100m butterfly and the 200m individual medley. All three swam in new long course personal bests.
Backstroke specialist Holly Leggott raced in the 17/over 100m and 200m events, showing impressive underwater skills from the start and cornering to post a pair of strong results, albeit slightly off her best season start time.
Rounding out the Regional Championships squad was Millie Herrick, who competed in the 15-year-old age group.
Recently returned to the pool after illness, Millie overcame a lack of training over the past two weeks to record two excellent swims in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
Her best finish came in the 100m, where she placed 16th out of 51 in a time of 1:04.27, less than two-tenths off her long course personal best. In the 200m freestyle, Millie finished 19th.
Lynn Chapman, Head Coach of Deepings Swimming Club, said: “The team should be proud of their accomplishments in reaching the regional championships.
“Everyone played to the best of their abilities and I was delighted with his attitude and the application of his skills in all of his runs.”
