Bradford Swimming Club shines at Yorkshire Championships

The CITY of Bradford swimmers have managed the Yorkshire Championships, coming home with 10 medals, 17 club records, five national qualifying times and a plethora of final placings.

Swimming in the 16-year-old age group, it was Gina Warrior who claimed City’s best finish with gold in the 50m backstroke in 31.02.

This time was both a club record and a British Championship qualifying time.

She also won silver in the 100m backstroke in 1.07.02, which was also a club record, bronze in the 200m, again in a new club record of 2.25.82, and seventh in the 200m four. individual strokes.

Next was Sophia Gledhill, 14, with silver in the 100m and 200m backstroke, and bronze in the 200m individual medley and 50m and 100m butterfly.

She added to her tally with four more top-10 finishes.

Alex Dunn swam a well-paced race to win silver in the 15-year-old women’s 50m breaststroke and also finished with four more top 10s.

In girls 17 and over, Rebecca Dunn took fourth and two fifth places with times of 2.43.64, 1.16.91 and 35.38 respectively in the 200m, 100m and 50m breaststroke.

His 100m time was a new club record and the 50m and 200m times were both club records and national qualifying times.

In the men’s events, it was 13-year-old Harry Schmidt who won the medals with a bronze in the 200m backstroke and he also earned three other top-10 finishes.

Fraser Buxton broke the club record in the 17 and over 50m freestyle in a time of 24.84 and his time was also a national qualifying time.

In the same age group 50m breaststroke, Cameron Mander swam to a national qualifying time of 31.50. He also recorded another top 10.

The other top ten went to Robbie Ambler (3), Freddy Dean (4), Jakub Marszewski (2) and Ciara O’Carroll (1).

Four of the club’s medley and freestyle teams also made the top 10.

All swimmers train as part of the Bradford Aquatics Competition program under the guidance of coaches Andy Pearce and Sarah Fisher.
